Hmmm…to be fair watching this administration I am shocked this didn’t happen sooner. I think the media and temperance people will go on and on about this but they love making a tempest in a tea pot (it is why no one listens to them or takes them seriously) no matter what happens. As you already pointed out Vox is already slanting their reporting.
As far as public debate goes we are already having that to the extent it can be had in this environment. It’s not as if it is a rigorous public debate when all the science looks for negatives and a few reports still affirm the positives even when they are not looking for them. No matter what happens media amplifies the bad so the “public” debate is one sided and the regulators continue to have meetings no one in the public knows about.
This is something that has struck me about all of this, behind closed doors all this bickering goes on and policy gets set by committee, meanwhile the public knows next to nothing except what gets filtered through an ever shrinking and bad at its job mass media, or social media opinions. The U.N. Thing for example, I could walk down the street in my small midwestern town and ask people if they have heard of it and I bet zero people would know about it. This is the disconnect between the debaters and policy setters/recommenders and your average person. It’s not really a gap that can be filled and overall the solution should be less “government” by far removed national or global committee. Maybe someday we can get to this if we survive the present era but I have my doubts, the trend is toward surrendering more of your sovereignty as a citizen for more comfort and distraction. No one cares for nuance or debate if it takes them away from their favorite mind numbing distraction.
Good overview, good writing.
Excellent report and food for thought.
This is wild. Thank you for a great read!
