Wine tourism is definately down in California. Absolutely correct on amount of decline as we hear it whenever we visit Napa and the Central Coast. The total wine-tourism industry needs to take a hard look at itself. Tastings in Napa running from $40 to $100 plus for a 4-wine tasting? $200 plus per night for a basic room.....even higher on weekends. Basic Cabernet and Pinot Noir running north of $75 per bottle starting point. Consumer can only handle so much unless you have unlimited funds. The amount of vineyards being pulled all along the West Coast is alarming-Washington/Oregon/California. Fruit is going unsold/grapes not picked. The next several years, I predict, will see a massive industry shakeup. Its a shame.
