I have such mixed feelings about GLP-1 drugs, on the one hand if it helps people that’s fine but on the other I don’t like that we solve all problems with pills now. I worry we are becoming a global monoculture of health neurotics driven by overbearing public health and silly social media trends…but also maybe it’s just a phase because we are not yet far removed from the COVID pandemic and the tide will go out soon and things will revert to some type of normal. There seem to be some early indicators of this and you allude to the fact that GLP-1 use does seem to fall off.
Thanks for the comment. I think that's a very common feeling. I have something of a contrarian view, which is I think these drugs are one of the great medical breakthroughs of our age. Every time they turn around, they discover something else they can do, from dampening the desire to gamble, to preventing dementia to preventing kidney disease. All kinds of things. I think the creators deserve the Nobel Prize! And I say that unironically.
I appreciate that view, and overall I think these things do more good than harm. Something you pointed out is a smaller portion offering at restaurants in New York, that is something I have been wanting for a long time everywhere in the U.S., I wish more places had the half portion option of things for a discount. Honestly, the portions can be insane at times. I feel the same way about drinks, sometimes I want a half pour of a beer but it would be nice if they gave more than a dollar off for it. Some places do this where I live but it is far from common or universal.
Agree with this for sure, always funny going into an antique store and seeing the little long neck bottles of 7oz Old Style beer and thinking I wish they still sold those.

Agree and I wish the drinks trade would think more about smaller formats.
